~ SHORT BIOGRAPHY ~
JOSUÉ JOSEPH has dedicated much of his life to the pursuit of living art.
From childhood, he was destined to be a passionate and full-of-life artist because it's written in his DNA; his father Alfonso Panamá is a musical legend and pioneer of Afro-Cuban music and Jazz as a bassist of the famous Palladium Ballroom in New York City - he is from the Buena Vista Social Club generation of musicians. Born and raised in the metropolitan area of New York City - Joseph's childhood was surrounded by super high-level musicians, dancers, and art.
He began formal classical piano training at the age of five, and by the age of 14 - he began composing and performing his own piano sonatas. During his adolescent years, he was exposed to the training in music technique and dance under his father's influential connections and friendships with icons such as Tito Puente, Israel "Cachao" López, Celia Cruz, and dancers including Pedro "Cuban Pete" Aguilar, Freddy Rios, Mike Ramos, and Carmen Cruz.
His dance training under the influences of Palladium-era dancers such as Mambo pioneer "Cuban Pete," and others - focused on technique, styling, and clave syncopation within the body, Palladium Mambo, and body-isolation found in Rumba. Familiar with On1 and On2 of present day, his preferred styles are Palladium Classic Mambo (aka Power On2) and "In Clave" Palladium Mambo. He is well-versed in Rumba & Guaguanco, Son-Montuno, Old-School Cha-Cha-Cha, Pachanga, Bachata and Bachata-Son, and Bolero.
Josue Joseph is American Salsa-Grammy (ERS) award-winning composer with an extensive background in Afro-Cuban rhythms. In 2000, he officially founded La Epoca with all the money he had saved plus donations - and since then - he has earned multiple awards in the U.S. and in Europe for his music, films, and contributions to the arts.
To present, he has directed and produced six documentaries, five soundtracks, and two symphony-orchestra productions in eastern-Europe, a critically-acclaimed acoustic dance-theater show, and he has produced music-videos for several of his tracks (one for example is "Así Son, Payaso Soy."
In 2011, he relocated to eastern Europe. Currently based on the Baltic Sea of Poland, this central European location provides him an arm's reach to major European cities. For over ten years, he has been actively teaching and performing music & dance at congresses and festivals in Europe and the US.
Most recently, in 2016, he co-directed and starred in a critically-acclaimed 45-minute dance-theater spectacle titled "Without Music, I am Nothing" with high-caliber choreographer - Przemek Wereszczysnki from northern Poland. Read a recent review.
